Dustin’s Artist Statement:
Forged at Birmingham-Southern College (Co’ 2012) and refined through 12+ years of professional practice, Dustin photographs to connect people to the world around them—to moments worth preserving, fleeting light distilled as if it were a painting, the history of life we take for granted. His training taught him technique as a storytelling tool. His work centers on composition, vivid hues, and timeless narratives.
His editing technique amplifies color with true-to-life vibrancy. He pushes saturation intentionally to create wonder. Against metallic papers, colors sparkle with the brightness of the sun's radiance. On hemp—his ecological preference—vivid prints keep imagery full of richness and weight. Tested for perfect color vision, he uses this as a tool to deliver the most delightful representation of his works.
His subject matter spans astro, sport, urban-life, motion, and americana. "Motionscapes"—now produced almost entirely handheld—is his brand-defining technique where controlled motion introduced into urban landscapes or astro works adds mysticism, photographing with an invigorating sense of presence as abstracted light paints unique stories. This technique, discovered as an accident, is now a signature staple. Beyond abstraction, he captures timeless americana and works professionally in sports, brand, editorial, and events. His documentation of the 2022 Birmingham World Games as The Official Photographer Company—having hired 13 local Alabama photographers—is his proudest professional moment.
Dustin hand-crafts every print in his downtown Birmingham studio: printing, matting, all done in-house. Metallic and hemp papers paired with matte, linen, and metallic mats provide long-term visual value for collectors.
He discusses his work openly, sharing the hows and whys of his technical, mathematically seeing eye paired with a layered, teachable, imaginative aesthetic. He creates art that carries the story of the moment elsewhere—compositionally sound, narratively visual, built to impress photography collectors can share with others..
